In the race to woo Emma Watson, he always looked the favourite.
Young Italian actor Roberto Agnillera was one of three male admirers who enjoyed intimate chats with the Harry Potter star at the recent Cartier Polo society event.
But, tellingly, it was Mr Agnillera who was seen on the dance floor with the 18-year-old actress, her arm draped around him in a gesture of affection.
And now he seems to have come to the fore as Miss Watson’s enduring companion.
Ten days after the Windsor polo event, they have been photographed out on a date at a fashionable London nightspot.
At first, it appeared that Miss Watson had left the Sway Bar near Holborn alone.
Yet closer inspection of photographs of her departure reveal Mr Agnillera lingering a few paces behind in the shadows, carrying all of her shopping bags.
The pair first met at RADA, where Miss Watson – said to have a £10.5million fortune – decided to study having finished her A-levels.
She and Mr Agnillera are on an eight-week Shakespeare course at the academy.
It was she who invited him to the polo, at which she also swopped phone numbers with Francis Boulle, 19, a Franco-Mauritian philosophy student.
Also seen deep in conversation with Miss Watson was blond-haired Michael Walker, 18.
None of which is likely to have impressed 25-year-old financier Jay Barrymore, who is most recently reported to be her ‘steady boyfriend’.
Forbes magazine has revealed that Miss Watson is the seventh highest-earning young person in showbusiness, taking home £2.8million in the past 12 months.
Top of the list is her co-star Daniel Radcliffe, who picked up £12.8million.
