Major artists have spoken in support of Emma Watson against the Israeli government’s attempts at labeling her an anti-semite.

Major film stars have voiced their support for Emma Watson and Palestinian solidarity in a statement.

Stars such as Sudan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, and Charles Dance have spoken out to support the Harry Potter star, who was accused of antisemitism by Israeli officials, simply for posting an image in support of Palestine.

Former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon used the “antisemite” label to attack Watson, which was met with ridicule and criticism across social media.

Artists for Palestine UK, which is a cultural network that bands together for Palestinian rights, organized a letter that includes the names of more than 40 known figures, including Viggo Mortensen, Maxine Peake, Gael Garcia Bernal, and others. The letter read: “We join Emma Watson in support of the simple statement that ‘solidarity is a verb’, including meaningful solidarity with Palestinians struggling for their human rights under international law.”

The letter also cited a Human Rights Watch report that said that the Israeli occupation is committing crimes of apartheid and persecution against Palestinians, declaring:

“We recognise the underlying power imbalance between “Israel”, the occupying power, and the Palestinians, the people under a system of military occupation and apartheid.”

“We stand against ongoing Israeli attempts to forcibly displace Palestinian families from their homes in the East Jerusalem (Occupied Al-Quds) neighbourhoods of Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan and elsewhere in the occupied Palestinian territory.”

The artists further stressed in the letter that they stand against all forms of racism, including antisemitism and Islamophobia, making it clear that “opposition to a political system or policy is distinct from bigotry, hatred and discrimination targeting any group of humans based on their identity.”
